New “shoes” for your ride

JP Euro is an authorized dealer for many tire and wheel brands. Come to us with your needs whether its for your daily driver or your weekend fun car.

Here’s a little industry secret: almost all tire shops buy from the same few nationwide suppliers. As such, we all get more or less the same price on new tires. So when you’re looking for new tires, where would you rather go: to JP Euro your normal, trusted service center, or a strange tire shop where you’re just another customer?

For your day-to-day needs, we check your tire air pressure for free whenever you need it done and when you find yourself in need of new tires, we’ll help you get the best possible pricing. Of course, you already know you’ll get great service from us, so we’ll spend a little extra time to go over your options.

Once every month, or before you embark upon long road trips, check your tires for wear and damage problems. One easy way to check for wear is by using the penny test. All you have to do is grab an Abraham Lincoln penny and follow 3 easy steps.

  • Take a penny and hold Abe’s body between your thumb and forefinger.
  • Select a point on your tire where tread appears the lowest and place Lincoln’s head into one of the grooves.
  • If any part of Abe Lincoln’s head is covered by the tread, you’re driving with the legal and safe amount of tread. If your tread gets below that (approximately 2/32 of an inch), your car’s ability to grip the road in adverse conditions is greatly reduced.

Tires wear out for several reasons:

  • Incorrect tire pressure
  • Bad wheel alignment
  • Worn suspension components

Whatever the reason, if the tires show signs of extreme wear, they need to be replaced immediately. A severely worn tire is a danger to the driver and other motorists.

When it comes time to replace your tires, talk to us about how you use your vehicles so we can base our recommendations on your needs.

Make your tires last longer by having your vehicle aligned and checking tire air pressures once a week.

WHEN SHOULD I REPLACE MY TIRES?

Tires have a significant impact on your driving safety, therefore it is important to know when to replace them. One of the most important considerations is how much tread you have left on your tires.

Tread depth directly impacts your vehicle’s ability to stop. Tires have reached the end of their service life at 2/32nds of an inch of tread. There are many studies that prove tires with 4/32nds of tread or less take a longer distance to stop your vehicle, even on a dry road surface. At 4/32nds and below, your tires are much more likely to lose traction in wet conditions.

Hydroplaning and stopping distance are significantly impacted at these low tread levels. For these reasons, we recommend replacing your tires when they reach 4/32nds of tread. Your safety will always be our number one consideration. In snowy driving conditions, tires with 6/32nds of tread will have a significant reduction in traction capabilities. This includes stopping power, as well as acceleration and handling. If your tires are in this condition during winter, you should consider replacing them.

The age of your tires should be a consideration when thinking about replacing tires. Tire manufacturers use many different kinds of materials to build a tire and unfortunately, these materials break down over time. We recommend having your tires inspected regularly by a trusted expert to look for warning signs related to aging. Minimum industry guidelines reference having your tires inspected every year once they are 6 years of age, and to remove them from service when they reach 10 years old regardless of wear. The average driver will wear their tires out before ever reaching the 6 year mark, based on the average annual miles driven of 15,000 miles. How your tires are used, the climate in which you live and how the tires are maintained play a big part in how long they last.

Notice how this tire still has some tread near the outside? A basic visual inspection while standing next to the car might not allow you to see the inside of the tire. In this case, this tire was ready to explode at any minute. Check your tires often!
